Brief

Sammontana asked for one of four elements for points of sale — a new display freezer, a furniture kit for bars and beach clubs, a reinterpretation of the classic tin sign or an iconic design object for the bar — following guidelines consistent with the brand. The goal: a contemporary take on Sammontana's essence, joining tradition and innovation to tell of carefree summers, Italian quality and the brand's popular imagery.

The choice

Ice cream carts with a strong iconic value, designed not only as furniture but as objects that represent the brand — versatile and adaptable to different contexts of use.

01 — Carretto Classic

The vendor of the past, updated

The classic cart reinterprets the charm of the old-time gelato vendor with a vintage, elegant design brought up to date. Instead of a freezer it holds traditional pozzetti with bell lids. Classic means a retro style with essential lines and an almost minimal visual cleanliness — elegant and timeless.

Streamline style

A headlight and silver bands

Streamline shows in studied details like the headlight on the front of the body and the silver bands running along the whole structure. They bring dynamism, recalling the fluid, aerodynamic forms of 1930s design, reinterpreted to convey lightness and movement.

Materials & finishes

Steel, lacquer and glass

The canopy structure uses stainless steel tubing for strength and durability; the same material is used for the work top and the details, for a uniform, modern look. The body is MDF with a glossy cream lacquer, and a glass display separates the vendor's work area from the outside.

In context

For events and private occasions

This version is meant for special events and private settings, where the focus is not on displaying the product but on the brand identity: a scenic, representative object, perfect for telling the story and tradition of Sammontana.

02 — Carretto Modern

Same cart, today's Sammontana

The Modern evolves from the Classic, with different graphics, finishes and accessories for another context of use. Modern not only for the brand's current graphic style, but for an integrated freezer instead of the traditional pozzetti, which makes the cart more practical and versatile.

03 — Barattolone Classic

The Barattolino, family size

It takes its name from Sammontana's famous Barattolino, borrowing its iconic shape to show the product in a direct, recognisable way — while keeping the vintage features of the Classic cart. Made to carry only Barattolini, it becomes a tool for direct promotion, joining vintage looks and communication strategy.

The freezer is developed in height to maximise capacity, and the Barattolini are served straight from the top of the cart.

04 — Barattolone Modern

Tradition, in today's colours

The Barattolone Modern shares the Classic's structure, enriched with graphics inspired by Sammontana's current visual language — a balance between tradition and the contemporary. Its umbrella is not custom-made: it is the round 3M model with a metal pole, already part of Sammontana's current materials.
